Physical Intervention
The use of physical intervention should only be used as a last resort and
must be agreed and recorded in the Individual Care Plan. Minimal restraint
should be used if there are other options available.
Medication must never be used to control challenging behaviour without full
consent from the G.P., Resident, Relatives, Care Managers, Consultant
Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychologist and any other persons involved in the
Residents care. Similarly, any other form of physical intervention, which
may be necessary for the personal safety of the Resident, must be agreed and
recorded.
Never, in any circumstances, can clothing or strapping materials be used to
restrain or restrict a Resident. Any incidents of this nature will be
viewed very seriously and may result in disciplinary action being taken.
Where assessments indicate that certain aids such as cot sides are
beneficial to a Resident care, this will form part of the Care Plan and Risk
Assessment.
Residents will be encouraged to maximise their independence, freedom of
choice including taking risks.
Every attempt is made to ensure the safety of the Residents, while
minimising the risks associated with their living environment.
