Aims and Objectives

Ellenscourt provides long term and if required, permanent care for people aged 18 and above who have a moderate degree of learning disability and in addition may have a mild physical disability which is congenital, acquired or of generic origin and or other related problems.  These are people for whom statutory service provision is inappropriate or not available, who cannot remain at home for various reasons and who are unable to be cared for in existing Social Service establishments.  The individual behaviour on admission and information on past records, do not necessarily reflect the true capabilities or true degree of disturbance.

 Ellenscourt endeavours to:

1)                  Minimise or eliminate aggressive or disturbed behaviour

2)                  Establish a policy of risk assessments

3)                  Maintain staff training programmes

4)                  Hold regular and specialist staff meetings

5)                  Provide professional input from Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Speech Therapist, Counsellor and Chiropodist

6)                  Involve all relevant people with individual Care Planning

7)                  Maintain and encourage outside activities using community facilities

8)                  Involve Residents, their families and Social Services in decision making at regular Reviews

9)                  Promote Resident independence and the making of informed choices and enable opportunities which may involve some degree of risk

10)              Actively maintain family and previous social contacts.
